Louis Trauth Dairy

Information comes from files at the Campbell County Historical & Genealogical Society in Alexandria Ky.

Louis Trauth Dairy started in May 1920 when Louis J Trauth and Clara (Stephany) bought one milk route from Fred Schuerman's Dairy, whom Louis was working for at the time. Mr. Schuerman was approaching retirement and wanted to reduced his business and workload. Schuerman's Dairy was located at the site of the Newport Shopping Center.

The new Trauth Dairy was originally located behind the Trauth's home at 11th and John streets. The company struggled as many new companies did the in early years from a shortage of startup capital and then the economic troubles of the Depression and World War II. In 1956 Louis Sr. and sons, Louis Jr. and Albert formed the Louis Trauth Dairy into a corporation.

A plant was constructed in 1926 and Trauth Dairy closed in August 2011.
