CLEAN & ALIVE-Cpl. Walter L Bole, 24, son of Mr. and Mrs. Olan Bole, 308 Elm street, Newport, a Korean War veteran, is "clean and alive" he informed his parents in a recent letter. The two year army veteran found that the bath for which he waited four weeks was worth it. Unwashed Bole's break came when his First Cavalry Division unit liberated a North Korean village astride the 38th Parallel.
Cpt. Bole moved into the town's hotel and his quarters were next door to a hot sulphur springs pool, tile lined. The Newport corporal "rested" in the pool for an hour even though enemy snipers were bombarding homes in the city. "Cleanliness is next to Godliness. I've passed the first hurdle and I don't want to fail on the second." Cpl. Bole declared after his immersion.
