Kentucky Post, Thursday, 13 September 1945, page 3

Pvt. Wayne H Herbert, 25 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. O C Herbert, 223 Lewis street, Newport, who became a prisoner of war of the Japanese when Corregidor fell, is en route to this country following his release.

The word has been released by his parents from the War Department. It was the first information they have received relative to Pvt. Herbert since a card sent shortly after his capture telling them he was interned at a Japanese prison camp in Manchuria. A radio message heard Saturday by his parents said he was in Manila. Pvt. Herbert, a mechanic with the heavy coast artillery at Corregidor, enlisted a year before this country entered the war. He was employed at the Pearl Market Garage, Cincinnati, at the time. His family lived in Milford O. until five years ago.
