GAR ROW-An order alleged to have been issued by W T Bausmith of Bellevue, State Commander of the GAR, has caused the threat of a split in the delegations which will attend the annual encampment, which will be held this year at Boston from Aug 15-20. General Order No 2 is said to contain the command that the Kentucky hosts will go to Boston from Louisville on a special train under the leadership of Junior Vice Commander H C Pearce. Pearce is a negro. Hence the howl.

The first post to take formal action and protest was Walter C Whitaker Post of Louisville, known as the "Lily White Post." It contains 97 members. Three posts are composed of negroes, two accept men of both races and the third, the Whitaker is against the negro.

Commander Bausmith states to the Post: The regular train will leave Louisville Aug 13 under Command of Pearce. When it reaches LaGrange, Pearce will turn the command over to John W Ackerson, the Senior Vice Commander. When it comes to Cincinnati it will be turned over by Ackerson to me as the State's highest order. Pearce is a high officer in of the GAR in the State and his command is regular. There is nothing extraordinary about the case. But the train goes to Boston under my command."
