SOLDIER-Dr. Locke, the City Physician was called upon at a late hour on Thursday night, to visit a young woman on Madison street, between York and Columbia, Newport, who it was thought, had taken poison for the purpose of committing suicide. It turned out, however, she had taken some drug to produce a miscarriage. She claims to be the wife of William Wellman, a soldier at the Newport Barracks. She states that she married him in July last and that within the last few days another wife of his, whom he marriage two or three years ago, has turned up.
Hence the trouble. The young woman hails from Fort Wayne, Indiana and her maiden name was Anna Brooks.
