William Wright Southgate

1800-1849

 

William Wright Southgate, a Representative from Kentucky, born in Newport, Ky., November 27, 1800; educated in private schools and by private tutors; was graduated from Transylvania College, Lexington, Ky.; moved to Covington; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1821 and commenced practice in Lexington, Ky.; prosecuting attorney 1825-1827; member of the State house of representatives in 1827, 1832, and 1836; elected as a Whig to the Twenty-fifth Congress (March 4, 1837-March 3, 1839); resumed the practice of law; died in Covington, Ky., December 26, 1849; interment in Linden Grove Cemetery.
