Samuel Philip Bridwell was the son of Fielding Bridwell and Martha H. Briscoe.

He married Emily Melissa Sugg, the daughter of George Sugg and Elizabeth Walker, 18 July 1865 Henderson County.

According to Shirley Moody in My Henderson County Kentucky Ancestors, 25-year-old Philip Bridwell died of cholera aboard a ship carrying tobacco to New Orleans.
