John Ellis Wood, b 16 Sep 1844 in Madison County KY, was the son of Andrew J. Wood and Ann Catherine Bentley. He served in the Union forces during the Civil War as a Corporal, Co. H, 8th KY Cavalry.

His wife, Melinda Susan Allen, b 23 Apr 1847, was the daughter of Isaac Allen and Julia Woodward, natives of North Carolina who migrated to Henderson County KY.

John Wood and Melinda Allen were married 9 Nov 1863 in Shawneetown IL, and lived at Poole.
