James Carnal is found on the 1830 Granville County, NC census index.
James Carnal does not appear in Hopkins County until 1840, when he shows up
on the Hopkins County census and tax list. He continues to appear on the tax
lists through at least 1849. The 1841 Hopkins County
tax lists shows him with no land and 4 children between the ages of 7 and 17. He also
appears on the 1850 Hopkins
County census and then appears on the 1860
Webster County census. The 1870 Webster County census shows him in Vandersburg
Dist.

Vol 5 of Hopkins County Cemeteries, p. 89, Oakley Home Cemetery listing shows A.S. Carnal 1847 - 1918. Next to him is
Rachel F. Carnal 1852 - 1937. Also buried here is James W. Carnal 1853-1909
and Phebe Ann, his wife 1863 - [blank]
James Carnal is not listed in Hopkins County Grantor or Grantee deed indices.

He married Lucy Wood 11 Jan 1818 Granville County, NC (source: Marriages of
Granville County, NC 1753-1868 by Brent Holcomb, Gen. Pub. Co., 1981).
Bondsman for the marriage was Wm. Terry.
1. Alexander - born ca 1827 NC. Married Celia Hobgood 26 Feb 1846 Hopkins County. He
appears on the 1850 Hopkins County census, the 1860 Webster County census & the 1870 Webster County census. It should be
noted that Vol. 5 of Hopkins County Cemeteries (page 72-73) shows Hobgood Cemetery
in Mt. Gilead area of Webster County. Listed is Fannie Hobgood, born Granville Co., NC
1814 - 1893. Also listed are several Carnals. It is unknown if Fannie was born a Hopgood
or if that is her married name. Whatever the case is, this might indicate a migration trail
of several families from Granville Co, NC to Hopkins/Webster County.
The Webster County death certificate for Allen Starling Carnal, born 2 Apr 1848 Hopkins County;
died 28 Sep 1918 Webster County is #31380. His parents are listed
as Aleck Carnal born NC and Martha Hopgood born KY. Informant was Henry
Carnal of Nebo, KY. Burial was in "Oklahoma" [Oakley Home?] Cemetery. 29 Sep.
2. Mary A. - born ca 1828 NC appears on 1850 & 1860 census with parents
3. Jno. - born ca 1833 NC
4. Martha - born ca 1838 NC. Appears on 1850 & 1860 census with parents
5. Lucinda - born ca 1840 NC (would have to have been before they came to KY); died at age 12
on 4 Sep 1853 of flux (source: Hopkins County Vital Statistics Deaths, microfilm)
6. Frances - (female) born ca 1844 KY Appears on 1850 and 1860 census with parents.
7. William C. - born ca 1846/7 KY; died 10 Sep 1853 at the age of 6 of flux (source: Hopkins County Vital Statistics Deaths, microfilm). Appears only on 1850 census with parents.
There is a George C., age 1, who appears on the 1860 Web. Co. census in the household
of James and Lucy Carnal. He may be a grandchild, as he was pretty young
to have been a child of James and Lucy
