I am researching the name CORFIELD in Allegany/Garrett Counties. My GGGrandparents, William and Patience TOOTH CORFIELD, came to America in early 1870, from England. They came with their first child, Eliza. (My GGrandmother) I have found them in the 1880 Allegany County Census and also the 1900 Census. One son of William and Patience, (James) is listed in a history of Allegany County as serving as Sheriff in 1912. Another son, Oscar, died in 1915. The accounting of his will listed Oscar's wife as Julia and his father (William) as living as of that date. (Dec.9, 1915) My records show the family living in Lonaconing. Eliza married Charles H. PARKER on October 18, 1888. Charles was the youngest child of William and Rebecca HUMBERTSON PARKER. I haven't been able to find any death dates for William or Patience Corfield. I do have a "Golden" anniversary picture of the family in 1914. I would be happy to exchange info with anyone researching the CORFIELD name. Thank you!

Also, maternal grandparents were MONAGHAN's from Frostburg, Owen and Margaret. I am trying to trace two items about the miners. One is where my Great grandfather came from _ Germany we are told and my father said he was an only child but the newspaper account of the accident from the "Cumberland Times" states he was survived by two children. Don't know where they were buried either - possibly a St. Mary's in Lonaconing. Can you point me in the right direction? Have spoken with a Sallie Atkinson, town historian and she says the Anthony CLUPP fought in the Civil War with the Potomac Home Brigade made up of coal miners from Lonaconing. My efforts with the National Archives have been in vain and have been through the Maryland State Archives which did give me a history of the brigade and the description of the flag. Thanks for you help. I will contribute what I know to your home page if you are interested. Oh, Frostburg University has helped me a lot also, Pam Williams.

Hello, I am researching the BONE family from Cumberland, Allegany County, MD. My great-great grandmother, Elizabeth BONE, was born in 1844 in Allegany County. Her parents were probably Martin and Deliah BONE. Martin was the son of Martin Sr. who more than likely was the son of Daniel BONE. Daniel is first recorded on the 1820 census. I am interested in corresponding with anyone connected to the BONE family. Martin and Deliah moved to Londonderry Twp., Bedford County in the 1850's. Elizabeth married John KENNEL in 1859 in Southampton Twp., Somerset County. Family lore states that we are related to the BOON family (BOONE) of Reading, Berks County, PA. Often, my great-great grandmother's name was written as BOON/BONE. Any interest, please email me.

Hello, My grandfather , John Hiram COLEMAN was born in Cumberland, Allegany County Maryland on the 12 Dec. 1849 and was orphaned sometime before the 1860 census. His death certificate lists his parents as Jesse Hiram COLEMAN and Margaret KELLY born about 1831 both in Maryland. Being orphaned at such a young age, he didn't remember much about his family, but was thought to have 3 brothers and a sister. Any help running these down would be appreciated. On the 1850 Allegany Co. census he and his parents were living in the household of Jeremiah and Liza Ann COLEMAN born about 1805 and 1796. Jeremiah was born in PA and is shown on the 1830 census as living in Cumberland, but is not shown on the 1840 census, but is shown on the 1850 census. Did they just miss him?Does anyone have information on this family or other COLEMANs or KELLYs living in Cumberland at this time? Or does anyone have a cemetery inventory of this area that deaths and dates could be found?Would like to correspond with anyone with information about COLEMANs or KELLYs.

I am interested in corresponding with WITT or WILHELM descendants. John WITT had a farm just into Allegany Co., MD, at Wellersburg, PA. His daughter Rachel married Philip WILHELM (s/o Peter and Salome) and they lived on the farm until moving to Lee Co., IL, about 1851. Philip's son Jonathan P. WILHEM moved to Grundy Co., Iowa, in 1880. Deeds in Grundy Co., Iowa, show that a lot of families from this MD region bought land but not many moved to Iowa.

I'm interested in learning more about the miners of Lonaconing beginning about 1850. My g-grandfather John HOPBELL (HOPPELL) b. 1834 from Germany (area unknown) arrived in the States circa 1846. Settled in Lonaconing as a miner, married (year ?) Martha Isabella (surname ?)number of children ? died 1919. His son Philip (my g-father) b.March 1862 was also a miner, died of pulmonary disease in 1911, In 1885 married Ann KIRKPATRICK (b.1864. d. 1940, Allegheny Co. Pa.)Three sons out of six children: Philip 1887, William 1889,& John Earl 1893, all sons worked in the mines beginning at age 9 until the 1914, when the family moved to Turtle Creek, Allegheny Co. Pa. for industrial work for Westinghouse Corporation. I was told that many miners left Lonaconing to find safer work in Industries of the Pittsburgh area: Westinghouse Electric Corp., Westinghouse Airbrake, and U.S. Steel Ann's father (my ggfather) William KIRKPATRICK, b 1839, Scotland arrived in Lonaconing about 1864 and worked in the mines. I would like to learn more about William KIRKPATRICK, his wife Jennette (surname ?)b.in Glasgow Scotland. Apparently William and his sons: John b 1860 Scotland, William b.1861 Scotland, and Andrew b 1875 Lonaconing, were all miners. Would like to trace the roots of the KIRKPATRICKS. Thanks,

Between 1831, when their first child, Catharine, was born, and 1838 when their second child, Mary E., was born, they migrated to Augusta County, VA. Other siblings are Sarah A., Jacob Henry (our ancestor) b.1844, Elizabeth Ann, Elias Mahlon, and Martin T. We believe his name to be Martin Jacob or Jacob Martin. Mary Elizabeth Funk's parents are David FUNK and Catharine LINDE. Her siblings are George {Mary WELTY & Mary NEIKIRK}, Susan {Elisa BREWER}, Nancy {Loudon KOONTZ}, Sallie {Jacob BEAR, Rev}, and Jacob. Death Certificate of Martin states father is David, no mother's name given. We believe this David is the same who married Susannah Funk, Sept 29, 1801 also think they had a son named Henry who married Susanna ALLENBAUGH.

The cemetery records for my ggg-grandfather Zachariah GREEN state that he was born on Feb 29, 1816 in Frostburg, Maryland. He married Elise Riddlemoser in 1843 in Tuscarawas County, Ohio. He died there in Jan 1890. Family history says that his father's name was William. I do not know if he had any brothers or sisters and have found no trace of William in Ohio. This is the last piece of the family history I have to prove out (and then I'm on my own as far as further research). Everything else I have been told I have proved as true, so I have no reason to doubt the William. I have records of all of Zachariah's descendants, but am at a brick wall as to his father and mother. Do any birth records exist for this time frame? Where is a good place to start researching? Any help would be appreciated.
