Adam J. and Emma Guenthner

Adam and Emma Guenthner were longtime farmers in the Mannhaven area.

Adam was born in 1899 in Mannhaven to Adam and Wilhelmina (Reiner) Guenthner, who came to North Dakota from Russia in the late 1800’s.  He married Emma Katherine Isaak, who was born in 1904 at Mannhaven. She was the daughter of August and Katherine (Breitling) Isaak.

They had four daughters and four sons. They were members of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Adam died during the Depression, leaving his wife a widow at age 32 with eight children to bring up.

As her daughter, Florence says, it was quite an achievement bringing up a family alone during those time, but she’s grateful for it, and as a result, the family is very closely knit one, loving each other deeply.
