Arthur Isaak & Martha WiedrichArthur H. Isaak, retired businessman and mail carrier, was born October 20, 1900, to August and Katherina (Breitling) Isaak. His wife, Martha, was born January 22, 1904, in Expansion, N.D., to George and Katherina (Ensminger) Wiedrich. Art and Martha were married in 1924 in Krem, where Art was a rural mail carrier and in machinery business until they moved to Hazen in 1942. Two years later they moved to Center, N.D., where they operated the Isaak Cash Store until it was destroyed by fire in 1949. For a time they operated another store, after which Art worked for Oliver County and in Herman’s Meat Market. In 1955, Art was elected Oliver County treasurer, serving until his retirement in 1971. Martha had worked in the store and Borchart’s café, and later in the county treasurer’s office. Both were involved in community organizations, Art serving on the school board and church boards. Martha in the American Legion Auxiliary and the church ladies aid. Both were active in the Golden Age Club in Center. They had 13 children, 10 of whom are living (1988): Vera (Mrs. Gerald Masten), Pelican Rapids, Minn.; Paul, Center, N.D.; Calvin, Denver, Colo.; Lucille (Mrs. Jim Hichock), Penyrn, Calif.; Reuben, Waukegan, Ill.; Myron, Dickinson, N.D.; Marlene (Mrs. Douglas Price), Hensler, N.D.; Betty Lou (Mrs. Donald Davenport), Fergus Falls, Minn.; Judith (Mrs. Jim Johnson), Hazen, N.D.; and Donna (Mrs. Jim Miller), Coon Rapids, Minn. ~Source: Hazen Jubilee book, 1913-1988 Arthur H.
