Herbert Isaak & Lea Wegerle

Herbert Isaak was born in 1908 in Mannhaven to August and Kathrina (Breitling) Isaak.

Lea, daughter of John and Pauline (Baisch) Wegerle, was born in 1916 in Ree.

They farmed northwest of Krem. When the children got to be school age, they moved to town because the school was four miles away with no roads leading to it.

Herbert worked for Hazen Motor and Gas Station for about eight years, then had a bad heart attack and had to quit. He was then a Watkins dealer for 12 years and city assessor for 23 years. Due to bad health, he had to retire. He also held offices in St. Matthew Lutheran Church, was a choir member, and a Lutheran Layman’s League member for 35 years. He was on the election board for 50 years and retired from that job in 1986. He died in December 1986.

Lea has been a nurse’s aide at Hazen hospital for 30 years, belongs to Prairie Homemakers (35 years), and belongs to Lutheran Women’s Missionary League at St. Matthew (38 years.)

Herbert’s father died in 1933; his mother in 1953. Lea’s father died in 1960.
