SAILER-MORAST

PIONEER COUPLE SURPRISED WITH GOLDEN WEDDING

Mr. and Mrs. Peter Sailer, Hazen, were given a big surprise on the day of the Golden Wedding Anniversary, last Sunday, Oct. 14. They decided to motor with Julius Froechle family to the farm home of their son, Gottlieb, near Krem.  Arriving there at three in the afternoon, they were greeted and congratulated by their sons and daughters and families.  Many other guests were present, also, to show them with best wishes and many beautiful and useful gifts.  A complete surprise to both, they were almost overcome with joy. The rooms of the home were decorated with golden streamers and white bells. A huge, beautifully decorated wedding cake, centered the table. Six o’clock found all at the long table, loaded with a most delicious chicken dinner. Rev. Senft lead them in prayer and read Psalm 126:3 from the Bible. “Derr Herr hat Groszes an uns getan; des sind wir Froehlich.” The Peace Lutheran Choir sang, “So Nimm denn meine Haende, nur mit Jesu will ich Pilger wandern.” The whole gathering sang, “Lobe den Herrn, den maechtigen Koeneg der Ehren.”

The evening was spent in visiting and singing. Mrs. Peter Sailer sang a Russian folk song, which she learned in her childhood days, when in Russia.  They party broke up at a late hour, with final adieus to the honored celebrants.

Mr. Peter Sailer, 74, and Mrs. Sailer, 69, were married 50 years ago at Kronthal, Russia. They came to Mercer County in 1906 and homesteaded on the farm, on which the wedding celebration took place, near Krem. In 1924 they moved to Hazen and left the farm in charge of their son, Gottlieb, and have resided here since.

Their children all present at the wedding (anniversary)  are: Mrs. John Ellwein, Krem; Rudolph Sailer, Zap; Mrs. Mike Zeiszler, Hazen; Mrs. Adam Zeiszler, Krem; George Sailer, and Gottlieb Sailer, Krem; Mrs. Ed Knecht, Mrs. Julius Froeschle, Mrs. Julius Barthel and Mrs. Otto Oster, Hazen. They were all present at the wedding (anniversary) with their families, which includes 45 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Only two grandchildren were missing, Miss Bertha and Ernest Zeiszler. The former attending the Dakota Business College at Fargo and the latter at home, nursing a sore foot, received in a recent high school football game.

Mrs. Lindy, a cousin of Peter Sailer, came especially for the occasion, from Lodi, Calif.

We extend our congratulations to the couple.
