RAYMOND BENZ
RITES TO BE SATURDAY

Funeral services for Raymond A. Benz, 33, boatswain’s mate first class, U.S. Navy recently stationed at Long Beach, Calif., will be held at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church 12 miles north of Hazen this coming Saturday at 2 p.m.

The Rev. Walter Borchardt, Hazen, will officiate at the services, with interment to be made in the church’s cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Clark-Grosz post of the American Legion, Hazen.

Mr. Benz passed away unexpectedly last Friday at Long Beach. He had enlisted in the Navy in the fall of 1942 and had served in the European and Pacific theatres during World War II, and also in the Korean area.

Born Oct. 15, 1924, north of Hazen, the son of Jacob and Lea Werner Benz, he had attended rural Mercer County schools, as well as Hazen high school.

In addition to his widow, the former Edna Spade, whom he married at Hancock, Md., Oct. 8, 1950, he is survived by his father, four sisters, five step-brothers and four step-sisters. His mother passed away in 1927 and one brother and one sister also preceded him in death.

Surviving sisters are: Mrs. Milton (Elsie) Buchmann, Baldwin, N.D.; Mrs. Ervin (Florence) Jose, Regan, N.D.; Mrs. Joe (Irene) Richter, Goodrich; and Mrs. W. (Frieda) Sczur, Garrison.  Step-brothers and step-sisters surviving are: Edwin Buchmann, Zap; Alex Buchmann, Bismarck; Theo. Buckmann, Minneapolis; Milton Buchmann, Baldwin; Emil Buchmann, Goodrich; Mrs. Frank Fetch, Bismarck; Mrs. Dan Dickhaut, Tolstoy, S.D.; Mrs. Ferdinand Suhr, Jamestown; and Mrs. Ernest Kessler, Hazen.

Pallbearers at services will be Ervin, Harold, Friedebert, Erhardt, Julius, and Gordon Benz.

Aarthun Funeral Home, Hazen, is in charge of arrangements.
