LOUISA (HERTZ) GOETZ
Dec. 2, 1905-March 28, 1997

Louisa (Hertz) Goetz, 91, a resident of the Knife River Care Center, Beulah, died Friday, March 28, 1997, in the nursing home. Services were held Tuesday, April 1, 1997, at the Zion Lutheran Church, Beulah, with Rev. Reinhold Markwart officiating.  Interment followed in the church cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers were George Strecker, Ted Wiebe, Bill Wiebe, Helmuth Hilz, Ted Barth and Bud Pulver.

Mrs. (Hertz) Goetz was born Dec. 2, 1905, in Lichtendahl, South Russia, the daughter of Martin and Margaret (Yahnke) Schutz. She came to the United States with her parents moving first to South Dakota for a short time then moved to Beulah with her family in 1914. She received her education in Beulah.

She married Nick Hertz on Oct. 21, 1923, in Hazen. The couple made their home in Beulah where Nick worked for the Knife River Coal Mine until 1944 when they moved to a farm south of Beulah. In 1963 they retired and moved back to Beulah. Nick died April 9, 1969.

She married John C. Goetz on Nov. 14, 1975. They lived in Beulah until June of 1994 when Louisa entered the Knife River Care Center. John entered the Care Center in February of 1995. He died Feb. 3, 1997.

Mrs. (Hertz) Goetz was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and at one time very active with the Zion Lutheran Church Ladies Aid, altar guild, and Bible study group.  She also enjoyed spending time at the nursing home visiting with family and friends.  She belonged to the Germans From Russia Heritage Society and participated in many functions in the Beulah area. She will always be remembered for her ability to prepare and serve her favorite German dishes and desserts for family and friends.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Ted and Audinne Hertz of Fort Collins, Colo.; one grandson, Mark and wife, Lyndsey Hertz of Loveland, Colo.; several nieces and nephews; one step-son Clifford and wife, Marlene Goetz, of Beulah; six step grandchildren and their families; 12 step great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Nick Hertz and John C. Goetz, and 13 brothers and sisters.
