Armond F. (Ike) Isaak, a lifelong resident of Hazen, passed away on October 31, 2017, at Elm Crest Manor in New Salem.  Service was held at 10 a.m. CST, Tuesday, November 7, 2017, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Hazen, with Pastor Kirk Peters officiating. Burial followed at the church cemetery.  Visitation was held from 5 to 7 p.m., Monday, at Barbot Funeral Home, Hazen.

Armond Isaak was born Christmas Day in 1929, the son of David and Rosalea (Guenthner) Isaak in rural Hazen.  He attended rural elementary school and Concordia High School in St. Paul before returning to attend and graduate from Hazen High School in 1947.

He worked on the family farm until February of 1951, when he joined the Army and went to war in Korea where he served as a Tank Commander.  As testament to his commitment to his country, he achieved the rank of Sergeant First Class (E7) in only one year five months and two days.  This would only happen in wartime and only for real leaders.

Following his discharge, Armond returned to Hazen and went to work for the Hazen Motor Co. He later became a partner in Hazen Mobil which expanded to include ownership in Independent Oil, Dale’s Interstate in Dickinson, and ZORA Inc. in Mandan.

On May 22, 1953, he was married to Violet Adolf, who became his lifelong partner. Together, they raised Pam and Randy to be good citizens and faithful Christians.

Armond loved the community of Hazen and worked along with others to make it the best community it could be to live and raise a family.  He served on the Park Board for 25 years, the Foundation Board of Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch, the Lions, Hazen Chamber, and served in various leadership positions in other organizations.

Armond was an active member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, serving in many different positions including Sunday School Superintendent and the building committee when the church was rebuilt following a fire in the 1950’s.

Armond’s hobbies included hunting, fishing, and woodworking. He made several toys for his grandchildren. Ike was a builder. He built the family home, and fulfilled a dream by building a cabin on Lake Sakakawea on land he farmed as a youth.

Armond is survived by his wife, Vi, of Bismarck; his daughter, Pam (Dick) Dever of Bismarck; his son, Randy (Heidi) of New Hope, MN; six grandchildren, Justin (Michelle) Dever, Adam (Sonya) Dever, Heather (Bob) Dever Ziebarth, and Emma, Armond, & Mary Isaak; 12 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Jeanette Zeller of Spokane, WA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Othmer, Elmer, and Walter; his sisters, Elsie Sailer, Gertie Ziemann, Selma Unterseher, Hildegard Wallender, Lorentina Weisz, and Delores Isaak.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Mathew Lutheran Church, the Alzheimer’s Association, or the Clark Grosz American Legion Post 189.
