DAVID ISAAK RITES FRIDAY AT HAZEN

HAZEN---David Isaak, 67, a former Hazen city assessor and longtime resident of the area, died Tuesday morning in a Hazen hospital. He had been in failing health for the past nine years.

Mr. Isaak was born Feb. 10, 1893, at Parkston, S.D.  He came to North Dakota with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. August Isaak, as a child, and they homesteaded northeast of Hazen. He attended Mercer county schools.

On Dec. 5, 1915, Mr. Isaak was married to Rosalia Guenther at the Lutheran Church northeast of Hazen. This was a double ceremony with Mr. Isaak’s sister and Mrs. Isaak’s brother. The two couples celebrated their fortieth wedding anniversary together in 1955.

After their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Isaak farmed 21 miles northeast of Hazen until 1951 when they retired and moved into town. Mr. Isaak was appointed city assessor in 1955 and was a member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, Hazen.

Surviving are his wife; four sons, Walter, Othmer, Elmer and Armond, all of Hazen; seven daughters, Delores Isaak, Grafton; Mrs. Tobias (Elsie) Sailer, Mrs. Eldor (Lorentina) Weisz, and Mrs. Armand (Hildegard) Sailer, all of Hazen; Mrs. Eldor (Gertrude) Ziemann, Stanton; Mrs. Reuben (Selma) Unterseher, Aberdeen, S.D.; and Mrs. Ivan (Jeanette) Zeller, Osburn, Idaho; 59 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four brothers, Richard, Bismarck; Arthur, of Center; and Fred and Herbert, both of Hazen; and five sisters, Mrs. Reinhold Guenthner and Mrs. Reinhold Schmoll, both of Laurel, Mont.; Mrs. Walter Esch of McCook, Neb.; Mrs. Theodore Huber, Hazen; and Mrs. Eldor Bohrer, Valley City.

Two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.

The funeral service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, Hazen.  Rev. G. H. Fiechtner will officiate. Reviewal at the church will be prior to the service only.

Honorary pallbearers will be Herbert Bohrer, Edward Gallwas, A.A. Sailer, William Rasch, Henry S. Miller, Fred Weigum, Edward Reiner, and Jacob Huber of Halliday.  Named as active pallbearers are six grandsons, James and David Sailer, Dale and Jackie Ziemann, Larry Weisz, and Joel Untersehr.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.

~Note: Per entries in David Isaak’s daughter Gertrude’s Bible, his date of death was April 26, 1960. David Isaak was buried in St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church cemetery of Hazen on April 29th.
