Elmer David Isaak

Elmer David Isaak, 82, a resident of The Dalles, Oregon, passed away at his home on Tuesday, November 17, 2009.

He was born into a family of eleven children in Hazen, North Dakota, on October 12, 1927, to David and Rosalia (Guenthner) Isaak. He grew up on a farm in Hazen where he attended Hazen High School.

Elmer married Velva Zeller on April 26, 1948, together they had four children. He moved his family to The Dalles in 1960. They were later divorced. He met and later married Annabelle Shephard on October 27, 1972. He was a Union Carpenter and worked on many local construction projects including The Dalles, John Day, Bonneville Dams and several bridges in the Columbia Gorge. He worked for Virgil Sharp Concrete Contractor Company for many years before retiring. He was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church and enjoyed hunting, fishing, remodeling for friends, dancing and sharing stories over a cold beer and family reunions. He especially enjoyed his time with his 11 grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Annabelle Isaak of The Dalles; his children, Audrey Porter, Lyle Isaak, Wade Isaak and Scott Isaak; 11 grandchildren, Collen Harper, Michael Searle, Timothy Bacon, Amber Dean, Sienna Isaak, Auburn Isaak, Lane Isaak, Taylor Isaak, Houston Isaak, Jeff Isaak and Hayley Isaak; 9 great grandchildren; step-daughter, Diann Wallin, 2 step grandchildren, Christopher and Kelsey and 3 great step-grandchildren; five siblings, Walter, Hildegard, Lorentina, Armond and Jeanette. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Selma, Elsie, Gertrude, Delores and Othmer.

Viewing will be held on Friday, November 20th from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturday, November 21st from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 21st at 3 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 2810 W. 10th Street, The Dalles, with Pastor John Westhafer officiating and committal to follow at IOOF Cherry Heights Cemetery.  Reception to follow after the committal at Faith Lutheran Church.  Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Lutheran Church.
