Alice was born May 6, 1933, to Richard and Lydia (Rathjen) Wittmayer, Hazen. She was raised and educated in Hazen and graduated from high school in 1951. She went on to attend Dickinson State College and received her teacher’s certificate. On May 16, 1952, Alice married John Lorenz at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Stanton. She taught at rural school in the Dodge, Golden Valley and Stanton areas for six years before Alice and John started farming north of Dodge, which she enjoyed. Her 1972 chevy truck was her pride and joy while she was hauling grain and hay. After retiring from farming, Alice enjoyed riding along with John while he was a pilot car driver for M & K Welding and Challenger Industries, delivering parts to four different states. Together they lived in Dickinson for seven years and enjoyed playing cards with their friends. John passed away in October 2016 and in November Alice moved into Hilltop Home of Comfort where she has since lived.

Alice was a Sunday school teacher for many years and was also on the Dodge-Loring Precinct Election board for 25 years. She was also a member of the Dodge Saddle Club, selling tickets for almost every event! Alice’s pride and joy was spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, Brenda (Richard) Zarr, Center, Linnea Lorenz, Killdeer, Tammy Lorenz, Dickinson, and Darren (Janet) Lorenz, Dodge; five grandchildren, Scott (Lisa) Zarr, Malborough, Miss., Casey (Alison) Zarr, Mandan, Jesse (Beth Kelsch) Zarr, Center, Jayme Lorenz, Dodge, and Nichole (Denver Unruh) Lorenz, Dodge; two great-grandchildren, Gracie Zarr and Katie Zarr, both of Mandan; one brother, Calvin (Arlene) Wittmayer, Stanton; one brother-in-law, Eddie (Delphine) Mittelstedt, Bismarck; and numerous nieces and nephews.
