Dwight Raymond Mattheis

Dwight was born on October 10, 1964, in Hazen, N.D. to Raymond and Leona (Voegele) Mattheis.  He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church and was a lifetime member there.  He attended school at Hazen Public School and graduated from Hazen High School in 1983. He attended one year at UND in Grand Forks until he began working at Dakota Gasification Company in the fall of 1984. He worked there until the time of his death.  Dwight was married to Kim Sailer in 1988 and they had three children, Samantha, Justin and Courtney.

Dwight was a volunteer fireman with the Hazen Fire Department for 16 years. He enjoyed taking his family and nieces and nephews camping and boating at the lake. He also enjoyed riding motorcycle and traveling. He could often be found spending many hours helping at the farm, as well as working on cars.  Dwight was always ready to help anyone with any kind of project.

Dwight is survived by his best friend, Mary Brecht of Hazen; two daughters, Samantha (Steve Fetsch) Mattheis and Courtney Mattheis, all of Bismarck; one son, Justin Mattheis of Bismarck; one granddaughter, Ava Rose Fetsch; his parents, Raymond and Leona Mattheis of Hazen; two brothers, Carey Mattheis of Hazen and Eric (Barb) Mattheis of Beulah; two step-children, Candi Brecht of Beulah and Crystal Brecht of Scottsbluff, NE; three step-grandchildren, McCoy, Jyzelle and Broderyk Mohl of Beulah; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Daniel and Elsie Voegele and his paternal grandparents, Rudolf and Lydia Mattheis.

Dwight was an extraordinary person and he will be deeply missed.
