Joan McCloud

June 22, 1936-May 29, 2012

GARRISON — Joan McCloud, 75, Garrison, passed away May 29, 2012, at the Garrison Memorial Hospital.

Joan was born June 22, 1936, to Tobias and Elsie (Isaak) Sailer in Hazen. She was united in marriage on May 18, 1953, to Joseph McCloud.

She enjoyed gardening, sewing and baking, especially homemade bread and buns. She loved nothing better than spending time with her family, and spent many joyful hours fishing with her grandchildren. She loved the time she spent working and later volunteering at the Garrison Memorial Hospital.

Joan was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by three wonderful children: two daughters, Kathy (Colin) Fischer, Garrison, and Suzie (Dean) Folden, Garrison; a son, Robert (Chris) McCloud, Grand Forks. her grandchildren, Brandy, Tasha, Marcie and Tyrel; her great-grandchildren, Cody and Trace; nine brothers, Glen (Merlin) Sailer, James (Marilyn) Sailer, Stanley Sailer, Tom (Cindy) Sailer, Perry (Donna) Sailer, Bruce (Marilyn) Sailer, Lee (Coleen) Sailer, Willis (Carol) Sailer and Jacob (Janet) Sailer; and three sisters, Judy (Joe) Proulx, LaVonne (Dale) Evenson and Yvonne (Monty) Stiefel.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Robert and Tommy; and sons, Larry and Jamie.

Joan’s final act of kindness was donating her body to the University of North Dakota Science Department for the education of others. Memorials to the North Dakota Special Olympics are preferred in lieu of flowers.

A memorial service will follow at a later date.
