Early Settler of Krem Goes to Final Rest

Mr. Friedrich Miller, of Krem, died on Wednesday morning of last week.  He was well along in years and while rather feeble had been enjoying pretty good health up to the last.  Retired as usual on Tuesday night, and apparently slept away, as on the following morning it was found he had gone to his final rest.

The deceased was born May 31, 1844, in the colony of Leipzig, South Russia, coming to this country in 1886.  He first located about 12 miles south of Hebron, where he lived for one year, afterwards moving to Krem, where he homesteaded.  He lived on his homestead there for 30 years, and in 1916 celebrated his Golden Wedding on the old farm.  He retired the following year, and moved onto his son Gottlieb’s place, two miles west of Krem.  He is survived by one brother, three sons, John, Gottlieb and Sam, and two daughters, Mrs. Gottfried Funk of Krem and Mrs. Salomon Isaak of Eureka, SD, and 44 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

Mr. Miller was a member of St. John’s German Lutheran Church of Krem, and one of the founders of the institution.  Funeral services were held at Krem Saturday afternoon, Rev. Grill of Krem preaching the funeral sermon.  There was a large number from over the county present at the funeral.  The deceased was an upright honest Christian, who was always willing to help a brother in distress, and was well liked by every one.  We extend our sincere sympathy to the bereaved relatives.
