Three Hazenites Die, Two Hurt in Montana Car- Truck Collision

Three Hazen people were killed and two were injured Saturday afternoon in a head-on car-truck collision four miles east of Superior, MT.

The dead are Gottlieb Miller, 75; Mrs. Paul Miller, 34; and her daughter, Paulette, 3, all of Hazen.

Injured in the accident were Paul Miller, 37, a son of Gottlieb, driver of the car, who received cuts, bruises and lacerations about the face and hands; and Henry S. Miller, 51, a nephew of the dead man, who received a skull injury.  Both were from Hazen.

The Millers were returning from a vacation trip to the west coast, where they had visited with friends and relatives during the past three weeks.  Two sons of Gottlieb Miller, Fred and Otto, of Hazen, flew to Missoula, MT, early Sunday morning to make arrangements for the return of the bodies and to be at the bedside of their brother, Paul.

The driver of the truck, who was asleep at the wheel when the accident occurred, was not injured in the accident and is being held in Superior pending the corner’s inquest.  He refused to enter a plea on charges of reckless driving.
