Final Rites Held for Mrs. Sam Miller

Funeral Services for Mrs. Sam (Maria) Miller Sr., 73, of Hazen were held at the Peace Lutheran Church here yesterday (Wednesday), November 17, at 2 o’clock.  Rev. T.F. Doyen officiated.  A family service preceded the church service.

Pallbearers were Leland Oster, Raymond Knoell, Garvin Wolf, Russell Knoell, Fred Baler and Don Sailer.  Burial was made in the Peace Lutheran cemetery.  The Aarthun Funeral Home of Hazen and Beulah were in charge of the arrangements.

Death came to Mrs. Miller Friday evening, November 12 at 8:35 at the Memorial hospital in Hazen.  She had been in ill health for some time and in hospitals since August.  Born in South Russia on Jan 21, 1881, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Christina Schuh Kanewischer.  She came to the United States in 1902.  On July 5, 1903, she married Sam Miller at Krem.  They farmed north of Hazen until 1944, when they moved to Hazen.

Besides her husband, she leaves four sons, Reinhold, Arthur, Oscar and Walter, all of Hazen; and seven daughters, Mrs. Christ (Pauline) Knoell, Hazen, Mrs. Albert (Hulda) Oster, Mrs. Herbert (Lydia) Wolf, Mrs. Albert (Elsie) Wolf all of Beulah.  Mrs. Henry (Martha) Heath Fargo, Mrs. Albert (Regina) Knoell, Hazen and Mrs. Cecil (Frieda) Berg, Stanton.

She is also survived by 41 grandchildren, six great grandchildren, three brothers, John Schuh of Hazen, Albert Schuh of Steilacoom, WA, and Gust Schuh of Golden Valley; and one sister, Mrs. Mathilda Baier of Staples, MN.  One sister and one brother preceded her in death.
