EX-HAZEN RACER KILLED IN CRASH

HAZEN (AP) – Funeral arrangements are under preparation for Donald Gordon (Bud) Olds, 46, one-time Hazen and Stanton boy who was killed Sunday in an automobile racing accident at Phoenix, Ariz.

Olds, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Olds of Stanton, was a professional race driver and had driven racing cars at fairs at Minot, Grand Forks, Fargo and Minneapolis among other places in this area.

Born in Hazen, he received his schooling in Stanton and at the State School of Science at Wahpeton. He served in the Navy from 1942-1945 .

Besides his parents, he is survived by a brother, Duane, in Army service in Italy, and two sisters, Mrs. Herman Leinius of Center and Mrs. J. Knappik of Vancouver, Wash.

The Aarthun Funeral Home here was informed services will be held Friday at Seattle, Old’s home in recent years. Burial will be at Stanton but arrangements for there are incomplete.

RACING VICTIM’S RITES AT STANTON

HAZEN – Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday from the English Lutheran Church at Stanton for Donald Gordon (Bud) Olds, former local resident, who was killed Sunday on his 40th birthday in an automobile racing accident at Phoenix, Ariz.  The Rev. R. Brien will officiate and burial will be made in the Stanton Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Byron Pulles, Raymond Wieger, Herb Schweigert, Roland Bohrer, Maynard Stephens, and Glen Stetson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Martin Schow, Byron Grannus, William Kuehl, and Howard Fuerst.

The Stanton American Legion Post will participate in military rites.

Born on April 8, 1916, at Hazen, Mr. Olds had been racing for the past 10 years. One brother, Clifford Olds was killed at Pearl Harbor.

The Aarthun Funeral Home at Hazen and Beulah is in charge of funeral arrangements.
