ALBERT SAILER

Albert Sailer, 85, of Hazen, North Dakota, died Wednesday, May 3, 2000, at the Knife River Care Center, Beulah.

Services were held at 10:00 a.m. MDT, Saturday, May 6, 2000, at Peace Lutheran Church, Hazen, with Rev. Marvin Mutzenberger officiating.  Burial followed at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, rural Hazen. Serving as pallbearers were his grandchildren Jeffery, Coleen, and Patricia Miller, Michael, Matthew, Christopher, Andrew and Sara Sailer.

Albert was born on the family farm near Expansion, Mercer County, North Dakota, on May 5, 1914, a son of Adam and Pauline Sailer. He attended area schools and was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. On March 25, 1940, he married Erna Wittmayer and they moved to a farm northwest of Stanton, North Dakota.  In 1943, they moved to the present family farm where they farmed until 1989, when Albert retired. While he was farming, he also worked construction on the Garrison Dam project and for a local equipment manufacturer. In 1995, Albert and Erna moved to Hazen and in 1996 Albert became a resident of the Knife River Care Center in Beulah. He really loved to dance, was a great talker and loved to sing. Albert was a pretty good singer, anyway the cows thought so.  For many years, he served on the local Elem Grove school board and the church council of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, rural Hazen, where he was a member until the time of his death.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Erna, of Hazen; one daughter Janice Miller, of Cheyenne, Wyoming; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Clyde and Janell of Williston, North Dakota; Dallas and Carol of Stanton, North Dakota; and Thomas of Stanton, North Dakota; eight grandchildren, Jeff, Coleen, Patricia, Michael, Matthew, Christopher, Andrew and Sara.
