ARTHUR "ART" SAILER

 

Arthur “Art” Sailer, 81, died December 5, 2009, at Providence St. Mary Medical Center in Milton-Freewater, Oregon. Memorial service was at Christ The King Lutheran Church in Milton-Freewater.

Art was born May 21, 1928, in Krem, North Dakota to Adam and Paulina Sailer. He attended school in Hazen and later began working on farms and in construction of the Garrison Dam on the Missouri River.

He joined the Army in 1950 and served during the Korean Conflict. He received the Purple Heart while in Korea. Art was discharged in January 1957.

He married Delores E. Berg January 21, 1958, in Riverdale, North Dakota. They moved their family to Milton-Freewater in 1967. While in Oregon, Art worked on the Little Goose Dam, Green Peter Dam, and for Ben Hunt Manufacturing in Walla Walla for 15 years. He later opened his own welding shop, which he operated for 11 years.

He enjoyed fishing, growing potatoes and reading.

Art is survived by his wife, Delores, of Milton-Freewater; four daughters, Carmen Bales of Missouri, Carlotta Richardson, of Milton-Freewater, Juanita Lint, of Forest Grove, Oregon, and Karen Binder, of Walla Walla, Washington; a brother, Benny Sailer, of Pick City, North Dakota; a sister Helen Ziemann, of Cheyenne, Wyoming; and eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by seven brothers and three sisters.
