In Loving Memory
BENNIE SAILER
April 11, 1924 – July 30, 2016

Bennie was born on April 11, 1924, on the homestead north of Hazen to Adam and Pauline Sailer. He was raised and educated on the family farm until he joined the Navy when he was 18 and served from 1943 to 1946, during which time he was in the South Pacific. Bennie returned home and married Betty Horning on July 25, 1952, in Stanton, ND. They were blessed with three children. Bennie worked on the Garrison Dam in North Dakota, the Oahe Dam in South Dakota and then throughout North Dakota on many missile sites.

In 1966, the moved back to Pick City to the same city lot where they lived when they were first married and had lived in a box car. In 1967, Bennie worked for the Corp of Engineers in Riverdale until retiring in 1986. (To go fishing!) Bennie was known for being a jokester. Some of his favorite toys were his telephone and his lawn tractor. He gave rides to all his grandchildren, especially nap time! Bennie also had a collection of hats and always wore one when out and about.

He is survived by his wife Betty of Hazen; two children, Debbie and Gary Eslinger of Upham, ND, Robin Sailer of Santa Fe, NM; four grandchildren, Chad, Corey (Melissa), Dawn (Tommy) and George; great grandchildren, Carter, David, Kaela, Emmalee, Olivia and Tommy; one sister, Helen Ziemann of Cheyenne, WY; in-laws, Delores Sailer of Milton-Freewater, OR, Patsy Sailer of Ravenwood, WV, Gerald Horning of Mayville, ND; numerous nieces and nephews.

Bennie was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Jodie Sailer; eight brothers, Richard, Helmuth, Tobias (Elsie), Eldor (Emma), Albert (Erna)_ William, Edwin, and Art; three sisters, Bertha Sailer, Frieda Sailer and Bertha (Norman) Adams; brothers-in-law, Norman Rabe and Harold Ziemann.
