James L. Sailer

James was born September 11, 1940, to Tobias and Elsie (Isaak) Sailer in Hazen, ND.  He attended farm school northwest of Stanton, then Stanton Public School and graduated from eighth grade from Pick City Public School.  On June 14, 1963, he married Marilyn Schwarz and they shared 51 wonderful years together.  They had three children, James, Pamela, and Kimberly.

James was employed by various painting contactors and then by Basin Electric Power Cooperative at the Leland Olds Station from 1967 until retirement in 2004.

James loved fishing, working on cars and pretty much anything mechanical.  He also enjoyed playing first base for his softball team, the Pick City Merchants.  James was particularly proud of the State Championship they won in 1981.  He also won “Miss Congeniality” in the Stanton Centennial Beauty Pageant.  James especially cherished the time spent with his nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his son, James Dean (Marion) Sailer of Pick City; two daughters, Pamela (Stan) Burling of Hazen and Kimberly Sailer of Bismarck; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; eight brothers, Glen (Merlin) of Stanton, Stanley of Pick City, Willis (Carol) of Port Orchard, WA, and Bruce (Marilyn), Lee Roy (Coleen), and Thomas (Cindy), all of Washburn, ND; three sisters, Judy (Joe) Prouix, LaVonne (Dale) Evanson and Yvonne (Monte) Stiefel, all of Garrison, ND; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn, his parents, two brothers, Robert and Tom, and one sister, Joan McCloud.
