JACOB SCHWALBE RITES HELD TUESDAY IN HAZEN

Funeral services for Jacob Schwalbe, 74, were held Tuesday, February 13, 1945, at one o’clock in Peace Ev. Lutheran Church with Rev. Karl Hephreidel officiating.  Interment was made in the Hazen cemetery.

Mr. Schwalbe died Friday morning, February 9, 1945, at his home in Hazen after having been ailing for the past six months.

Born the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Schwalbe Dec. 9, 1870, in Arzis, Bessarabia, South Russia. He was married to Elisa Gust in March 1900 in South Russia. Coming to the United States later the same year, he and his wife homesteaded 20 miles north of Hazen.

Surviving him, in addition to his widow are four children, Mrs. Maria Zabel and Otto Schwalbe of rural Hazen, Mrs. Delia Brooks in California, and Herbert Schwalbe in Montana, and a sister, Mrs. Martin Oster of Hazen, and a brother, Emanuel of Killdeer. One son, John, preceded him in death.

Special music at the funeral was provided by a girls chorus consisting of Tracy Boettcher, Bernice Mittelsteadt, Wilma Weigum, Leola Weisz and Esther Zeller, accompanied by Donna Weigum at the organ.

Pallbearers were Fred Adolf, Andreas Wittmayer, Gottfried Goetz, Johann Menge, Ferdinand Rahn and Heinrich Kussler.
