JOEL BRUCE UNTERSEHER
March 25, 1945 – June 29, 2003

Joel was born on March 25, 1945, in Beulah, North Dakota, as the first of three children of Rueben Bernhard Unterseher and his wife, Selma Emma (nee Isaak). He was brought into God’s family by the washing of regeneration and renewal by the Holy Spirit through Holy Baptism as a child.

He went to schools in North and South Dakota and eventually graduated from Williston High School in 1963. He served his country in the United States Air Force, being stationed in places such as the Philippines and Thailand. Once out of the Air Force, he went to work in 1968 for North Central Airlines being located in Detroit, MI, Minot, N.D., and finally in Omaha, NE.  When he moved to Omaha in 1975, he was working for North Central Airlines which eventually became Republic Airlines and then finally Northwest Airlines, with which company he worked until his death.

Joel was married to Donna May Husted in Sioux City, Iowa, in 1968, and to this union was born Steven and Scott. In January of 1979, he was married to Susan Hurd (nee Bevins) and to that union came Joseph M. Hurd and was born Jessica. His four children were the joy of Joe’s life.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1982.

He is survived by his children: Steve (Debbie) and Scott (Lisa MacKenzie) all of Santa Rosa, CA., Joe (Sharon) and Jessica (Nicholas Sims) all of Omaha; by five grandchildren; Eric, Rory, Andrew, Jenna, and Lilianna; by his mother, Selma Unterseher of Bismarck, N.D.,; by his two sisters, Rosie and life companion, Donna Johnson, of Seattle, WA., and Melissa (Tim) Richholt of Rocky Mountain House, AB; by five nephews, Tim, Joshua, Jeremiah, Micha Richholt and Jerry Johnson; and by his faithful puppy, Max.

Joe loved to travel and golf. He especially loved to hunt and fish. But most of all, he loved to spend time with his family. He was a great friend to many and was always willing to take another person under his wing and help them along.

We cherish our memories of Joe. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends alike. We look forward to seeing him again even as we rejoice in the knowledge of the resurrection of all who believe in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
