Michael, the son of Mike F. Wolf and Rose A. Wolf and dear brother of Kenneth A. Wolf of Beulah ND enlisted in the US Marine Corps on April 4 1966 in Minneapolis MN. In Vietnam he was assigned to and serving with Company H, 2d Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st MARDIV (Rein) FMF.

While participating on Operation SWIFT in the Thang Binh District of Quang Tin Province a platoon combat patrol from Company H came under heavy enemy fire in the vicinity of the hamlet of Chau Xuan (5). Under severe enemy attack a reaction force was dispatched to the beleaguered Marines joining the battle. When contact with the enemy finally ended, casualties were evacuated, numerous had been wounded and nine men were killed. LCpl Wolf was one of the men killed in the action as a result of hostile rifle fire.
