IVAN “SHORTY” ZELLER

Ivan Zeller, 71, Spokane, Wash., formerly of Beulah, died Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004.  Memorial services were Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004, at the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Spokane with the Rev. Mark V. Benning officiating. Interment followed at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Ivan was born Feb. 16, 1932, in Beulah, to Arthur and Emma Zeller. He was baptized on March 27, 1932, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Zap and later instructed and confirmed in the Christian faith in 1948 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mannhaven. He attended schools in Hazen and Beulah, worked on farms while growing up and also worked at the Garrison Dam.

On Aug. 31, 1952, Ivan married Jeanette Isaak at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mannhaven. Their marriage was blessed with four children. He and Jeanette celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary together with their family and friends in 2002.

Ivan graduated from State School of Science in Wahpeton in 1954. The Zellers moved in 1956 to Wallace, Idaho, where he was employed with Hecla Mining Company for the next 30 years. He retired in 1986 and later moved to Spokane in 1990. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking.

He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Osburn, Idaho, before transferring to Holy Cross in 1990. He served his churches as trustee, elder, chairman, financial secretary, usher and greeter and often volunteered his help with church building construction and repairs.

After a stroke in 1998, Ivan resided at Monorcare for the last five years.

Ivan is survived by his wife, Jeanette, and their family: Chuck and Colleen Zeller, Neil and Debbie Zeller, Barbara and Randy Belstad, Susan and Carl Sowell; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mae Guenthner and Gloria Legult.

Ivan was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Jerry and Melvin and one sister, Velva Mallory.
