Walter A. Ziemann

 

Walter was born on February 6, 1918, at the farm in Krem, to Emanuel and Martha (Rahn) Ziemann. He was raised and educated in the Krem area. Walter served in the CCC from October 12, 1936, to September 13, 1937, at Idaho and Montana. He worked for many farmers in the area.

On December 25, 1943, he married Lorina Oster at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, rural Hazen.  Together they made their hone on the farm, 14 miles north of Hazen, which was Walter’s grandfather’s homestead. Lorina died May 5, 1999. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, rural Hazen, where he was baptized, confirmed and married. Walter was a member of the Hazen Senior Citizens and the Pick City German Club. He enjoyed dancing, German food and caring for his cats and dogs. Every year Walter looked forward to the CCC Convention, where he would visit old friends and catch up on the past.

He is survived by one daughter, Linda Ziemann and special friend David Hurley of Mandan; one granddaughter, Cori (Keller) and Steve Kilbert of Killdeer; two great grandchildren, Kalsey and Alexandria Kilber both of Killdeer; one sister, Frieda Stiefel of Jamestown.

Walter was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Lorina; one daughter, Diane; five brothers, Herb, Edwin, Eldor, William and Erhardt; five sisters, Emma Gutknecht, Loraine Ziemann, Erna Heimark, Ella and Adina Ziemann.
