Charley Bennett came to Antelope County with his parents Mr. and Mrs. George Bennett in 1916.  The family stayed until 1922 when they returned to Nebraska City, but Charley remained at Neligh.  He was drafted into the Army in 1918 but the Armistice was signed the day he was supposed to leave for training.  He went to work on farms until 1920 when he married Ruth Hutson at Neligh.  They moved to a farm north of Meadow Grove and then back to Neligh in 1923.  They lived here and there for a while until 1948 when they purchased their own farm, living there until 1960 when they moved to Oakdale.  Charley died in 1966.  Ruth lived in Oakdale for three more years then moved to Pioneer Homes in Neligh for 15 more years.  Ruth’s parents were Lon and Lena Hutson.

Charley and Ruth were the parents of five children:  Dorothy, Lena, Gladys, Charles and Darlene.  Dorothy married Jim Tinsley, Lena married Lyle Miller, Gladys married Leonard Bennett, Darlene married Bud Dietz.
