Kenneth O. Bennett, son of William Harrison Bennett and Alma Johanna Peterson, was born July 27, 1923 at Elgin, Nebraska.  He lived on farms in the Elgin-Neligh areas for most of his childhood.  After his mother’s death in 1935, the family moved to Elgin where Kenneth completed his schooling, graduating in 1941.  He enlisted in the U S Navy for six years of which 18 months were spent aboard the Aircraft Carrier, U S S Ranger. 

 

Jerrene Jillson, daughter of Dr. P M Jillson and Juanita Bartlett, was born May 3, 1924, at Elgin.  She graduated from Elgin High in 1942 after which she taught a year in a rural school.  She later attended Midland College and the University of Nebraska of Nursing.  Kenneth and Jerrene were married on March 23, 1947 in Elgin.  Kenneth worked as a welder at Bennett implement.  Later he was an agent for Mobil Oil for over 30 years.  Jerrene continued in nursing and worked for nearly 20 years in nursing homes in Neligh and Tilden. 

 

They were parents of two sons, Luther Michael and William Paul.  Michael married Peggy Burke and they have a daughter and son.  William married JoAnne Fisher and they have a daughter and son.
