Leroy Lewis Bowker was born on a farm in the Grecian Bend community west of Neligh in 1891 the youngest son of Mr and Mrs William H Bowker. He attended Grecian Bend school and Gates Academy in Neligh. He married Eugenia Davison of Neligh in 1911. The couple had five children: Marjorie, George, William, Howard and Glen. They farmed in the Neligh area until 1922 when they moved to Neligh where they operated a bakery. During the depression, the family engaged in the carnival concession business during the summer. Daughter Marjorie graduated from Neligh High in 1932 and later moved to Omaha where she married J Stuart Hales. George completed school in 1935 and moved to Hot Springs, South Dakota. William graduated in 1937; Howard in 1940 and Glen in 1945. Marjorie and family returned to Neligh and operated a Realty buiness. George ranched in South Dakota; William served in WWII and later was in the realty. Howard married Evelyn Schmidt of Neligh. He served in WWII in the Navy. Glen served in the Army, married and later worked in the newspaper business. Leroy died in 1957 and Eugenia in 1985.
