William Wallace Carey was born on February 19, 1850 in Grundy County, Iowa. He had two brothers, Abraham and Russell, and a sister, Martha. On February 24, 1875 he married Bertha Minnie Wolfe of Cedar Rapids (born: April 5, 1856). They had three children: Fred (1876), Della (1877) and Clarence (1879).
The family moved to Orchard, Nebraska, in 1883 and Eugene was born (1885). In 1888 the family took a homestead west of Venus. Mrs. Carey died in 1889 at the age of 32. On September 27, 1892 he married Nancy Elizabeth Winters and they had four children: Bertha (1894), Floyd (1896), Alice (1898) and George (1901). Mr. Carey worked as a carpenter and in later years operated a cream station and shoe repair shop. In 1930, Mr. Carey moved to Brunswick where he resided with a grandson, Austin Carey. In 1936 he moved to Middlebranch to live with his son Fred. He died there in 1938. He is buried in Lambert Cemetery. Fred married Lillie Sophine Post in 1900 at Walnut, Nebraska. They lived in Venus, Middlebranch and later moved to the farm east of O'Neill. Lillie died in 1946 and Fred in 1957. They had nine children: Claude, Ralph, Lester, Howard, Fred Jr., Bertha, Boyd, Myrtle, and Leola. Della married Mr. Schoonover and lived in Canada. At some time the family moved to Washington. Della died there in 1978. Clarence had ten children: Richard, Delores, Esther, Laverne, Marvin, Harold, Gus, Clarendon, Mabel and Grace. Eugene married Bessie Newberry of Page on November 12, 1907. Bessie died in 1910. They had a son, Austin. In 1913, Clarence married Nancy Manzer. They had children, Frank, Joanne, and Eugene Jr. They got divorced in 1930 and Clarence married Elna Eckman. He died in an auto accident in 1962. Bertha married Ben Scott and was widowed. No children. Floyd married Bertha Babcock. They lived in California and had two children; Doris and Kenneth. Alice married Hubert Hastings, no children. George married Helen (?), live in Rhode Island and had one son, William.
