George Gier, born about 1830 in Pennsylvania, son of Jacob and Nancy Ann Gier, traveled with his family to Davis County, Iowa.  George married Mary Jane Stepro, Bloomfield, Davis County, Iowa.  Mary Jane, born about 1830 in Harrison County, Indiana, was the daughter of Peter Stepro and Catherine Schuck.  Mary Jane had moved to Iowa with her mother and some of her brothers and sisters.  Some stayed in Indiana.  George and Mary Jane farmed there for many years and 10 children were born there. 

They moved to Antelope County in the early 1870’s, where George filed for a homestead.  Daughter, Clara Belle, was born here.  Later, George retired to Oakdale where he ran a livery stable for many years.  A son, William came and took the old folks back to Iowa to live in their later years.  There they died and are buried.  The children of George and Mary Jane and their spouses are:  Sarah Ann Gier, born 1853, married February 4, 1872 to Cornelius John McIntosh, 10 children:  Catherine Gier, born ca 1855, married John Anglin McIntosh, 5 children:  Samuel J B Gier, born ca 1856, married Mary Trowbridge on July 21, 1878; George H Gier, born ca 1858, married Hannah Hall on February 18, 1878:  Mary Eizabeth Gier, born 1860, married Andrew Buckmaster on December 9, 1878, four children:  Steven Douglas Gier, born ca 1861, married Martha Frances Van Vlerah on July 15, 1880, 7 children:  Francis Marion Gier, born November 2, 1861, married Ida Belle Phillips on May 20, 1885, 7 children:  Martha Madge Gier, born ca 1863 married Abraham Lauderback on August 3, 1889.  Abraham died in 1894.  Martha married George Williams on February 20, 1897.  Martha’s children: 5; William Sylvester Gier, born ca 1868, married Carrie E Gaver, December 11, 1899, 5 children; James L Gier, born ca 1868, married Mary Jane Trowbridge on March 21, 1889; and Clara Belle Gier, born July 1875, married Elmer Burroughs on August 17, 1907.
