Frank Kamphaus, son of Frank Kamphaus and Helen Hoffman, was born March 21, 1931 near Tilden, Nebraska. He is the oldest of seven children. When he was a young boy, the family moved to a ranch west of Elgin. He started school in Wheeler County and then attended St Boniface. They moved northeast of Raeville where his father died and the family continued to live on the farm. Clara Hinrichsen, daughter of William Hinrichsen and Lydia Hoerle, was born August 5, 1933 in Wheeler County. She has two brothers and attended schools in Wheeler and Holt counties.
Frank and Clara were married on June 11,
1955 at Raeville. Frank was inducted
into the United States Navy on December 5, 1955 and took basic training in
San Diego. He was then stationed at
Alameda Naval Air Station. Clara
joined him in 1956. After his
discharge they came back to Nebraska and lived on one of he estate farms
southwest of Elgin.
