ErnestCharles Kinney, only son of Albert Burke Kinney and Anna Adams, was born August 5, 1891 on his parents farm west of Elgin, Nebraska. He died August 2, 1958. Ernest entered Gates Academy at Neligh but was called home to assist his mother in operations of the farm when his father became ill and died.
Ernestmarried Alta V. Jenkins on June 20, 1917, daughter of Henry and
Maude Jenkins. The Jenkins family had
come to Antelope County from Woodbury County, Iowa in 1911. Alta was a schoolteacher and had attended
Morningside and Wayne State Colleges.
Ernest farmed his entire life.
They had four children: Burt
Davis Kinney; Laverne Kinney, Doris Kinney and Joyce Lorraine Kinney. Laverne died at the age of two years. Burt married Elayne Ruroede, Doris married
George Slajchert and Joyce married Richard Huffman.
