Austin Elwood Malzacher was born September 23, 1874 in Oakdale, Nebraska, the son of John and Jennie Malzacher.  He lived his child and adult years in Antelope County except for his time attending Omaha Commercial College.  He served as Deputy County Treasurer until 1921 and was later elected Treasurer in 1914.  After serving two terms, he became a shareholder in the Neligh Lumber Company.  He gradually bought out the other shareholders and the lumber company remained in the family until 1975.  Austin married Mary Ozetta Warner, daughter of Anaximander and Elizabeth Warner on April 27, 1898.  She was born February 1, 1875 in Oakdale.  She attended Oakdale schools, Gates Academy and Fremont Normal School.  They were parents of seven children:  Gladwyn, John, Mildred, Vivien, Elsie, Paul and Joyce.  Gladwyn died in infancy.  John became a physician, Mildred married Clarence Powers, Vivien married Stanley Thornton, Elsie married Oscar Krohn, she died on March 14, 1973; Paul married Dorothy Ladwig, served in WWII, returned to Neligh and managed the lumber company; Joyce married G W Weik, taught school.  Austin died June 23, 1964 and May on November 9, 1958.  Both buried in Oakdale Cemetery.
