JOHN MALZACHER was born in Baden, Germany, June 3, 1849.  He came to America in 1866 and spent a brief time in seminary training but decided against the profession.  He worked on a farm in Minnesota for a year, then traveled to Yankton, South Dakota.  He walked from Yankton to Antelope County, Nebraska and bought a homestead near Oakdale in 1869.  John married Jennie Elwood, daughter of Captain Thomas Elwood and wife Alysis, in 1873.  Captain Elwood had served in the Civil War as a doctor.  Jennie and John were the parents of two children, Austin Elwood and Elsie.  Jennie died on February 15, 1879 and John married Emily Wright in 1880.  She was a school teacher from Ohio.  Their children were Violet, Annie, Lillian, Joe, Jess, Basil and Hazel.  John died in Norfolk, Nebraska on February 8, 1933.  John and Jennie are buried in the Oakdale Cemetery.
