Donald Lee Mickelson, son of Almond and Ella Mickelson,
was born at the family home near Hays, Kansas on February 1, 1919. He had three brothers and one sister. Don moved with his family from Kansas to
Bartlett, Nebraska in 1928 where he graduated from the eighth grade at
Ericson in 1933. Don joined the Army
in 1942 and was stationed in Texas with Company M, 357th Infantry,
90th Division. Audrey Mae
Worden, daughter of Lawrence and Lillian Worden, was born near Clearwater,
Nebraska on April 4, 1927. Audrey
graduated the eighth grade west of Elgin. Don and Audrey were married on April 5, 1948 at Fort Collins,
Colorado. They began their married
life on a ranch northwest of Bartlett. They farmed on several farms around Elgin and retired to Elgin in
1978. They are the parents of five
children. Carolyn married Royvan
Ragland; Dale and his wife, Susan; Sharon married Marlin Matson; Jolene
married Michael Retzlaff and Linda married Michael King.
