James Stewart Stringfellow was born in Jackson, Ohio in 1836.  He was the youngest of seven children born to John Stringfellow and Hannah Speed.  John and Hannah came to the United States from Great Britain in 1830.  They settled in Pennsylvania for six years and then moved to Gallia County, Ohio in 1836.  In 1873, James Stewart married Eliza Ann Hughes, who was born in Center Point, Ohio.  Six of their eleven children were born in Gallia County.  The family moved to Antelope County, Nebraska in 1884.  They settled on 160 acres in the Elkhorn River Valley east of Oakdale.  James Stewart was a railroad man as well as a farmer.  He was a successful land dealer as well.  About 1902 the family moved into Oakdale.  James Stewart died in 1927 and Eliza Ann died in 1912.  The names of the children are:  Virginia Alice, Charles Everett, William Franklin, John Irving, Laura Ellen, Nanette Viola, Austin James, Leroy W, Clarence Dewitt and Edna.  After Eliza’s death, James married Esther Beers. Virginia Alice (1874-1958) married Everett O Cunningham.  They lived in Oakdale.  They had one son, Raymond W, who attended the University of Nebraska and worked for a large chemical company.  Laura Ellen (1881-1953) married Charles Dudley Thompson and they lived in Neligh.  They had three children:  Frederick Stewart married Anna B Schrader, two children;  Genevieve Isabel married  T J Miles, three children; and James Gordon married Bernita Brown, served in World War II as a Sea Bee, three children.  Laura Ellen had a second marriage to Benjamin F Roberts.  Nanette Viola (1883-1975) married Charles Wiest.  Their children were Geraldine and Stewart.  Edna Blanche (1891-1982) married Walter A Rose, a daughter Betsy, second marriage to Mr Glenn.  Charles Everett (1875-1926) lived most his adult life in Vancouver, Washington.  He raised a family there.  William Franklin (1877-1926) married Marie Thielen and their sons were Darryl and Wayne.  John Irving (1879-1936).  Austin James (1885-1949) went to California.  He married Gladys Canow.  Their children were:  Lowell Austin, married Clara Slack, two children; Thelma Grace married Elvin Best, one child; Stewart Samuel married Loraine Castonetta and they had two children; Wendell D married Betty Jean Jones; Claude Eugene married Barbara Jean Taylor, three children.  LeRoy W (1887-1978) married Nellie Admire. He was a bishop in church.  One daughter, Margaret who married a Dr. Shipley.  Clarence DeWitt (1889-1934) married Emma A Kinnan.  They farmed near Oakdale.  Their children were Robert Russell, married Helen Voluntine, and Pauline who married Ben Bronowski.
