NIELS
CHRISTIAN TOUSGAARD was born on May 11, 1829 in Denmark. His wife, Mariane Paulsen, was born on
February 27, 1837 in East Assels, Mors Island, Denmark. They were married on November 30, 1860 in
Nykobing, Denmark. Anna Mary was born
to them on October 4, 1861 and Sena on August 5, 1865. The family left Denmark in 1870 and
settled in Iowa between the towns of Storm Lake and Newell. A son, Martin Matthew, was born July 4,
1877 and a daughter, Mattie L, on October 4, 1874. About 1880 they moved to the Willow area in Antelope County,
Nebraska, northeast of Neligh. On
February 26, 1884, Anna Mary Tousgaard married Edgar Elliott, who was born in
Halifax, Nova Scotia. Their son,
Albert Anthony, was born in Oakdale on January 9, 1885. Edgar died at the age of 30 and Mary at
the age of 47. Albert joined the Navy
and made it a life career. He and his
wife, Mary, and two sons lived in Virginia. He died June 15, 1970. Sena
Tousgaard married William J From, a mail carrier, on October 30, 1894. Their daughter, Dorothy Marian, was born
on December 11, 1895 in Omaha. William died in 1908, Sena in 1924 and Dorothy in 1974. Mattie L Tousgaard married John S Gibson
of Oakdale January 10, 1894. Their
daughters, Vee and Barbara, were born in Oakdale. Vee married James Hicks of Stanton and they had three
daughters. Barbara married Frank
Stevens of Elgin and they made their home in Wyoming.
