While visiting her sister, Mary Lier, in Burt County, Nebraska, Emma Buckhuus met Oscar Truax.  Oscar had spent much of his life in Craig and Tekamah, Nebraska.  They were married at Emerson, Nebraska on April 20, 1898.  They were the parents of two sons, Waldo and Howard.  They moved to Neligh in 1905.  Oscar worked in Housh’s Hardware Store and ran the harness and saddle department.  Elmer Truax was born the same year the family moved to Neligh.  He was joined by brothers, Melvin in 1908 and John in 1913.  Oscar continued to work at the store until 1936.  Meantime the family had bought some land and raised dairy cattle and started the Pioneer Diary.  Waldo left school and joined the Navy in 1917.
