Abner Goodwin Winn was born on August 14, 1842 in York, Maine.  His mother died shortly after his birth and he was raised by an older sister.  He was one of 13 children.  He enlisted in Company B of the 14th Regiment of Massachusetts Infantry.  His unit was mustered into service and July 5, 1861.  During combat he was wounded in the thigh and discharged on August 1, 1864.  During the winter of 1864 he went west to Chicago.  While in Illinois he enlisted again and served in Company I, 9th Regiment U S Veteran Volunteers until April 1866.  He next lived at Marion County, Iowa where he was a blacksmith.  Later he moved to Blakesburg, Iowa.  He married Mary M Lyon on October 6, 1872.  They were the parents of five children:  Hattie George Anna Winn; Jesse Grant Winn; Daisy Myrtle Winn, George Ezra Winn and Grace Hazel Winn.  He moved to Nebraska in 1882, living in Otoe County for a short time and then moved on to Chambers where he homesteaded for a year.  Later he moved to Neligh.  Mary Melissa Lyon was the daughter of Ezra M Lyon and Caroline Parr.  She was born October 31, 1849 at West Salmanca, New York.  Abner died at Neligh on December 4, 1906.  Mary died on March 8, 1913. 

Hattie George Anna Winn, known as Harriet, was born August 12, 1873 at Blakesburg, Iowa, to Abner and Mary Winn.  She was five when the family moved to Neligh, Nebraska.  She graduated from Neligh High, went to Massachusetts to learn the millinery trade, then to Chicago and back to Neligh.  Unmarried she died January 17, 1947.  Jesse Grant Winn was born to Abner and Mary Winn on August 24, 1878 at Blakesburg.  He spent most of his live in Neligh where he operated Winn Garage.  He remained single until late in life, marrying Augusta M Zimmer on September 24, 1931.  Jesse died of burns on September 17, 1937.  Daisy Myrtle Winn was born at Blakesburg on September 5, 1881.  She graduated from Neligh High in 1900 and worked in the millinery trade.  Unmarried she died on October 15, 1959.  George Ezra Winn was born at Neligh on March 27, 1886 to Abner and Mary.  He worked as a Watkins salesman in the Schuyler area making deliveries b horse and buggy.  He married Hattie May Olmsted on October 17, 1914 at Schuyler.  Hattie was born May 12, 1890 near Norfolk, Nebraska to Walter M Olmsted and Helen Mary Hawks.  The couple returned to Neligh where George worked at different things and in 1933 they started a café in Laurel.  Then there were businesses in Randolph, Coleridge, and Jackson.  George died on May 19, 1946. Hattie died at Coleridge on September 13, 1965.   George and Hattie adopted two children:  Jerome W Winn and Joanne Louise Winn.  Joanne married Leonard L Franzen.
