History of Antelope County 1883-1973, p. 97
Sherman Township
The first school taught was by Rachael Burch in the summer of 1880. The location of the township was excellent, the prairie was gently rolling and the country well adapted to dairying and sheep and cattle raising. There were many excellent springs draining to the branches of the Verdigris.  The valleys were rich black, sandy loam underlaid with limestone.  Settler here were Scotch, English and Americans.
